When we arrived at the Sunset Partner Hotel we thought we had gone to the wrong hotel. Not what we were expecting. The driveway and fascade lets the hotel down. Reception said that it was based on a Roman building (half of which had fallen down). The reception and dining room need updating as do the rooms. There is not a lot of pride in the fittings - first impressions do count and curtains which are falling off the rails and shower curtains tied to the runners do not do it for me! The mini-bar turned out to be an empty fridge (all the better to put your water in). On the plus side the beds and towles were changed every day and the Towel Art was fantastic. The food in the restaurant was plentiful but boring, not very hot and OK for Egyptian tastes. No fresh vegetables or potatos. The chefs were helpful and would do all they could to accommodate your request but on the whole there was lots of rice pasta and cous cous and a choice of either chicken, liver, fish or lamb. Very repetitive. The sweet counter was to die for. Take a tip from me and go there first, that's what the other guests do - it empties out fast. That said the staff are very friendly and helpful. The pool was great although the Pool Bar needs a thorough updating, new cushions etc. The Hotel provides you with towels to use around the pool or on its own private beach but this is shared with 7 other Hotels. It gets very crowded. The sea is lovely and the fish come right up to the edge - amazing. Because it was so crowded we went to the public beach near The Old Market - for the cost of 10 Egyptian Pounds per day that included a sun bed, mattress, shade, toilets, swimming pool for adults and children, restaurant (although not open when we were there). Another tip: go to the beds near the bridge it is just far enough away from the speakers not to deafen you when the music starts! The beach is just a 20 min walk, downhill, from the Hotel and you can get a taxi back for another 10 Egyptian Pounds.
