The Mistral Hotel is a gem for single people. Guests are collected from Chania airport as part of the package and nothing is too much trouble for Vassilis and his wonderful staff. Rooms are large and en-suite, well furnished and clean. All the rooms are doubles for single occupancy. There are two swimming pools and a very lively bar which is the meeting point for all the guests and locals alike. There is also a spa area for massages and treatments. The cooking is typical Cretan cuisine and delicious, evening meals include copious amounts of wine which is included in the price. Meals are taken at a long sociable table, everyone eating together with none of the usual isolation afforded single travellers in other hotels. The prices at the bar are very reasonable and there is a vast selection of cocktails, complete with sparklers after dark! The bar staff are brilliant and good humoured, joining in the dancing at every opportunity. A trip into Chania town is a €2 bus fare away and provides ample shopping and sightseeing opportunities. Many guests have returned time and time again, ages ranged from about mid twenties to 60+ and we were a mix of British and Americans. Please note, this is not a matchmaking holiday! It is a place where, as a single person, you can go and socialise with other like-minded people, have a good time and feel as safe as you would at home. If you have never been away on your own before - this is the best it can get. If you happen to meet someone special, well done, - I believe there have been a few weddings as a result, but no pressure!!
