I was a little worried about booking the Althay Appartments but am delighted that I did. I have stayed at numerous hotels and appartments on Fuerteventura and for value for money this is by far the best. Antonio and his staff worked ceaselessly to attend to everyone's wish, always smiling and cheerful. The rooms are clean and quite large with twin beds in the bedroom and a sofa bed in the lounge. All have large patios or balconies and are cleaned every other day. The Althay is 2 star and so is the price. Do not expect gourmet food you will get a well cooked simple selection that anyone can find a meal to suit them. There is FREE Wi Fi in the reception area and a well stocked shop if you fancy a little shopping. A 42 inch TV is in the bar/restaurant area but is never intrusive and if you want to avoid it that is easily accomplished. There is a pleasant pool area which is undergoing some work to improve it but this does not affect the guest. If you are looking for a lively holiday this hotel is not for you. If you want some peace and quiet and can entertain yourself they it would be a good choice. Away from the main town set in a quiet area it is a 15-20 minute stroll to the beach. There are Foreign as well as English guests here as in most hotels in the southern part of the island. Some of the 2 star English guests did not seem to understand this. Transfers or taxi charges from the airport will be around 70-80 so hiring a car is a good option, then you can see the island. Thank you to all the Althay staff for making my stay special.

I arived at Althay apartments mid afternoon on the 7th of January 2009 staying for one week. I never read a single review before booking my holiday and I am so glad that I didn't as I may not have gone. This holiday was the best I have ever had and I can honestly say that on the way home we were already planning our return to the Althay Apartments. From the minute we walked in the door, we were made welcome and our every need was catered for. The room was very spacious on the ground floor and was nice and clean and had house keeping and fresh towels every second day. Everything worked fine and we slept like babies in very comfortable beds. I felt very safe and secure at all times and had no concerns regarding theft. My valuables were on show a lot of the time and nothing was ever touched. The staff were first class in every level. They were friendly and always smiling. They also took great pride in there work especially the kitchen staff who put together one of the best full English and continental breakfasts I have ever seen. My partner is also a fully qualified chef and her standards are very high when it comes to food preparation and hygiene. She was invited in to the kitchen and was very impressed with there standard of cleanliness and pride they took when preparing meals. I never saw the same meal twice in a different form and vegetarians were also very well catered for. To be honest we hardly ate food at lunch time because we were so full of cakes fruits and sandwiches put on between meals, not forgetting the excellent choice of ice cream available. Three of our evenings were spent at the bar and at around 22.00pm the kitchen staff bring out lovely home made pizza which was absolutely perfect. The bar was free as it should be when fully inclusive. When I say that, I mean every drink was free that was behind the bar not just a certain choice that they keep hidden under the counter. The swimming pool was of an average size and was cleaned along with the sunbeds every morning at 07.30am whilst I was out with my cuppa tea. Costa Calma is a wonderful quiet location with beautiful beaches and is truly a stunning place to relax and put your feet up and enjoy life. We have had an excellent time and we will always have fond memories of our stay at Althay Apartments. I am not saying that these people with clearly bad experiences are leaving false reviews but what I am saying is that clearly the place has changed since these earlier reviews and you are going to miss out on an excellent holiday if you take notice of them. We can't wait to get back there again as we have had the time of our lives and it's all thanks to an excellent manager and all his staff at Althay Apartments.
