Solo female traveller who had paid double room and extra supplement as lone traveller, at Half Board. Had requested high floor room, quiet room. On arrival, at 8.30pm, was trying to lift luggage up to reception area, whilst being watched by 3 reception staff, one of whom was male. No offer was made to assist me - nor to point out that there were a few trolleys hidden in a corner. They simply watched me struggle. Given key to room number 346 and was told it was a double room. Had only one single bed - spotless room but for a 5 year old child perhaps, not a paying adult who had to chose to pay extra for a double room! Once inside room, the external noise was awful. I was two floors above 2 dining areas which were open from 7.30am to 10pm and used all during that time for the AI service. Immediately in front of my view was the 'entertainment stage'. If I had blinkers on I could have appreciated the view but this was difficult when a big black covered stage was the main focal point, as well as the racket. No fridge in this tiny room (with its equally tiny balcony). Phoned reception and was told I could have a fridge but at a cost. Was told this 'was' a quiet room at 10pm. I asked to go check the apartments across the road. A bit basic but more than ample, loads of room and space, huge balcony, separate bedroom, and far quieter than the hotel bedroom. HB was waste of money. Food was repetitive, regurgitated reheats, lukewarm, tasteless. Waiter /table service appalling. As for costs of beer/water at dinner, it was extortionate. No pool service during the days I stayed there. Hotel gardens gorgeous, river walkway well designed. Surroundings were filled with birds twittering, ducks quacking, this was reason the hotel was popular - and nothing else. A 7 minute stroll via the level riverside walkway or on the road, which was a little steep for the return walk but buses ran every 15 minutes, stopping right at hotel so this was not an issue. Entertainment was in the form of typical young reps who did their best but lacked any professionalism, experience or enthusiasm.

This is a very good hotel. It looks nice from the outside and is also from the inside. Friendly personnel at the front desk, good food (buffet). A garden to die for with a huge swimming pool and friendly waiters. Great entertainment as well during the day as during the night. The rooms are nice and tidy and clean. We know where we are going to be next summer. Tour Operator: 04 August 2005
