I have just returned from Tunisia, and we were supposed to stay at the Houda golf hotel but on arriving there with my sister we were devastated, it was the worst I have ever stayed in. We read the reviews before going but went with an open mind, god I wish we had taken notice of the reviews. It is awful. Don't waste your money. Lucky for us our rep Phillipa, who was new to the job, was very good. She moved us to Skanes palace which is a 4* and it was absolutely wonderful. The whole holiday was great, people in the hotel so attentive, can't do enough for you, and the animation team were very good. These boys work hard to make sure you enjoy your holiday the shows they put on are so funny. I cannot say anything negative about this hotel. Me and my sister are booking to go back next year but for two weeks, only had a week this time but wish we had two. Ladies - do try the body scrub steam room and massage all for £35, well worth it. Also the para gliding on the beach well worth £15 - amazing experience. We stayed in room 243 - amazing room, cleaned daily, and the view of the sea when i opened my eyes was so amazing to all that visit this hotel you will not be at all disappointed. But if you go to the Houda golf you will be devastated - don't go...if you booked change it. Take care all, enjoy...Glynis and Margaret

What can I say? Was the best holiday I have ever been on, the best thing about it was the team there, Alex, Ali G, Carlos, Shaggy, Marco and May, more. If it wasn't for them don't think the holiday would have been as good. I'm going back in 19weeks with my daughter and I can't wait. I speak to Ali G every week on the phone and he is really a nice person.

Well what can I say, went to the Houda Golf and Beach Hotel with the wife and 3 kids for two weeks. Arrived on the Sunday at about 11h45 in the morning, on our arrival we were told our room would not be ready untill 2.00pm. Now we had been up all night so I didn't really want to hear that, but I bit my tongue and said nothing. When we did finally get the keys to our room it was about 100 metres from the reception and up three flights of stairs with no porter to help you. Our room was clean but basic, now I had paid for 2 rooms but this had one room leading to another, we had only one bathroom between us and only one exit door, the view was of the swimming pool so that wasn't bad. The kids and wife would not eat the food, they lived off pizza and fruit for two weeks, a couple of times they had grilled rabbit on the menu. (NOT FOR ME) There was plenty of salad and fruit but the quest for food was unreal, by the time you got back to your table the food was cold. The first week we were there my wife had a pair of gold earrings go missing out of the room and some friends of ours had £150.00 and a Prada phone go, along with some clothes, plus there was other reports of other thefts around the hotel we put this down to a member of staff. The beach was terrible, the sea had loads of seaweed which made it look really dirty and not very inviting, so we spent most of our time at the water slides which the kids seem to love (I thought the water was bloody freezing) you could get a drink at the pool but only soft drinks but no food. If you wanted to spend a few hours around the pool you had to be up by 5.30am sharp to beat the Germans and get a bed, which I did every morning, I don't even get up that early for work, but they weren't beating me. So if you're reading this and are thinking of going there DONT GO!Save your money and go to Skegness, you'll enjoy it more.

I read a lot of reviews before our departure but I went to Houda with an open mind. I thought that it cannot be that bad. However to my disappointment it was. Me, my wife & two children (4 & 9) arrived at the Houda Golf & Beach Club on 26th Aug 2007 at around 11.30am. We were already delayed by 3 hours, so we were a bit restless. Unfortunately the room was not ready on arrival and we had to wait 2 hours for it to be prepared. Room 1: When we finally did get our room, it was just 2 rooms along from being the furthest away from the centre of the Hotel. First thing I noticed was a socket hanging off a wall, with the celotape apparently not enough to fix it to the wall. View out of window was exquisite, we were facing the road & a building site with a lovely 100ft Crane! It was so picturesque and peaceful. The room had an upstairs where the children could sleep. However the stairs were almost vertical, so my 4 year old had no option but to sleep downstairs. There was a window in the upstairs, I whipped the curtains back expecting a slightly higher view of the building site, however it was not even that good. There was no view just a 3 foot unplastered wall staring at me. There was also no plug for the bath which was really handy with small children. Room 2: We changed the room for a family room. Which was quite respectable although still very basic. Pool 1: Unless you get up in the dark, donít bother going to the main pool behind the reception. It was totally over-crowded. Did not go to this pool once other than to get food out of the snack bar. Pool 2 Slides: The slides are probably the only thing that is good about this hotel, however my kids were getting bored of these after about a week. One point I must bring up was. A little child had an accident on the bridge connecting the two pools (bad tummy), over a week later the outlines of excrement could still be seen, nicely baked onto the tiles. Beach: I was expecting a nice clear sea with lovely beach. Wrong! The Thames looks cleaner. The restaurant: With over a 1000 rooms, it was manic. Don't bother queuing up nicely for your chosen food as the French will just go straight to the front of your queue anyway. There is only 1 cutting board & 1 knife for bread for approx 2000 people, you can imagine what the queues were like. Entertainment Staff: They were really friendly, however their shows were awful. Soon as the mini disco finishes leave. The Smell: The constant smell of raw sewage was unbelievable. Illness: There was so many people ill that in the second week. I witnessed them testing the ice in the drinks, the water in the pool, and the food. One poor lady was so ill that she was on a drip! Vomiting, bad stomachs & ear infections were the order of the day! Overall summary: 1/10. The 1 was for the slides and weather combined.

We stayed in th Houda Golf and Beach Hotel in July. You would have thought it would be prepared for us holiday makers, well it wasn't. The queue for food at the restuarant was like a cattle market and all self service so with little kids and dirty hands you can imgine. The snack bar were just as bad although you were served, if you wanted more than one thng you would have to queue agian. The all-inclusive is a joke, I spent more on ice-cream for the kids than I care to remember, it was only avalible when the restaurant was open. What's the point in that... The beach was very small and if you wanted a drink you would have to go back into the resort to a bar which is a walk I promise you. Thank God for the water park that saved the kids and us from boredom for the first week. After that it was seen it, done it and the kids didn't want to go. Aall in all it was one of the worst holidays we have ever been on, my daughter who is 7 went to Wales the week after we got back and she perfered that, £2,400 wasted only to just enjoy the weather. We did get out and visit other places, only to thank God we got there in one piece. Also again it was spending more money to get out of the hell hole. I am sorry if anyone who has booked is reading this, but my advice is to go somewhere else... There was a party of 12 ranging in age from 3 - 49 and I can honestly say all of us hated it. We booked this place because some of the people we were with had been to Tunisia before and had a wonderful time, they stayed in Las Oranges in Hammamet, we should have gone there.

We have been to the Houda Golf and Beach Hotel 4 times and different times of the year and really enjoyed everyone. Yes the rooms are a little basic but always clean. Hotel staff and the animation are very good, food is ok but remember it's not a 5 star hotel. We would recommend this hotel and will be going again I'm sure.

Just got back from the Houda Beach Hotel, I was surprised to be honest. There was a party of six Adults ages from 21 to 51 and we all enjoyed it very much. All though the rooms are basic, they were very clean, towels and bed linen changed daily. The food was really good especially the lunch and evening meal, breakfast was what you would expect for a foreign country but having said that you were spoilt for choice and the food was tasty at all meals. The staffs were excellent at reception, the cleaners, the waiters, and the kidís entertainers worked extremely hard non-stop to please the kids and adults, always courteous. New Years Eve they put on a spectacular Gala Meal, everybody worked extremely hard to make the event a wonderful experience for the guests. In addition, the food was wonderful all seven courses, each lady received a red Rose and everyone was made to feel special. The only thing that bothered me was the lack of non-smoking space, as an X Smoker I do go on a bit about the subject, but the reception were everyone meets can get very smoky and is not very pleasant. However, to be fair the dinning room is strictly non smoking which is nice and there is a small area for non-smokers, but is not large enough. Tunisia was different to what I had experienced in the past, and whilst I felt intimidated by my shopping experience I would still recommend it as a warm friendly Country were you are made to feel welcome by hard working, caring people. My final note on the Houda Beach I would definitely return, it as great facilities and all the staff work extremely hard to please everybody and make your stay in Tunisia memorable what more could you ask for. Thank you to everybody from Thompsonís whom we booked with, their Airline who we flew with, their Reps who did a marvellous job during our stay, and lastly all the members of staff at the Houda, Jan who was so helpful, Abdul our waiter, our cleaners and all others who worked tirelessly to keep the Houda working for all.
