Iberostar Sahara Beach - Very good holiday with Thomas Cook and the kids loved it
Iberostar Sahara Beach - This is a 3 star hotel so do not expect 5 star service i.e. towel exchange and continuous waiter service. I read some absolutely rotten reviews about Sahara Beach so was a bit worried before we went. The Tunisian people are not miserable, they are VERY friendly, you do get the odd miserable one as you do anywhere but most of them are lovely. I saw some terribly rude English and French so be prepared for queue jumping and learn "get to the back frog face" in French. Be polite and you will be shown the same courtesy in return. The food is really good considering they are catering for so many (it is a huge place). There is plenty of variety and the Tunisian dishes are fab, so for god's sake try them. If you are fussy and want crap English food then go to Blackpool! We booked through Thomas Cook and the reps were fantastic (Merina and Liz). Sahara Beach has a lovely pool complex and stunning beach, and both the pools and the sea were lovely and warm. Considering it is only a short flight and no time difference, this is seriously the hottest place I have ever been. I am married with 4 kids and they all loved it, something for everyone. We have done the posh stuff in Thailand, Jamaica and Spain but we loved this holiday just as much, even though it was not quite so luxurious. It really is family orientated. A family approached me while I was there asking what the hotel was like. They were at the 5 star down the road and the kids were bored and they wanted to move! It is a bit dated but really clean, I have no complaints at all. Forget the bad reviews. Oh, there is one thing that is a bit of a nightmare - if you want a parasol then be prepared to get up at 5 and put your towels out! We did go peak season but never had to queue more than 5 mins for drinks or food. The evening entertainment is excellent. The Animation team amuse you round the pool all day and then dance for you in the evening. We did have dodgy tummies but we had ice so have it in your drinks at your own peril, their water is different to ours. Do not be put off by bad reviews, we had a lovely holiday and I would recommend this place ten times over. The beach and pool is as good as any 5 star place I have been to.

First trip to Tunisia - interesting country, lots of Roman ruins, but the Iberostar Sahara Beach Hotel was very disappointing. 8 mins transfer from the hotel which is great when you've been travelling for ages but the noise from the planes at night is terrible. During the day it is OK but planes were taking off and landing up to 2.30am and start again at 5.30am and we just didn't get any decent sleep the whole week we were there. Hotel cleanliness leaves a lot to be desired, our room was never cleaned properly - yuk. Also, there was something living in my pillow and I got bitten all over my face and neck and five days later, my face is still swollen and I have to take anti-hystamine tablets. The Iberostar Sahara Beach is low lying near to a salt plant so lots of mosquitos, I was bitten to death even though I had repellent. Some of the staff are quite surly and rude, especially those on the reception desk. The swimming pools were fine, cleaned every day but are not heated so quite cold. The beach was filthy and the sand full of cigarette butts so we steered clear of this. The one thing that was good was the food on offer. There was something for everyone and if you are a veggie, there is plenty for you also. You are assigned your table at the start of your stay and you have the same waiter all week. I cannot moan at all about the food. The beach bar also serves up the best chicken kebabs you've ever had. There is a zoo on-site with birds, baboons, emus, ostriches, porcupines etc. etc. - good for the kids. However, October is the start of unsettled weather for Tunisia. We had five days of sun 25-30 degrees then two days of thunder and rain and at this hotel there is nothing to do when it rains! It is in the middle of nowhere - there is nowhere for you to have a walk and it is another awful world outside of the hotel gates! The excursions on offer via your tour operator are fantastic. Cheap and great to go on. The coaches are brand new and all the trips we went on were very enjoyable. So, overall, the holiday was OK but I would not come back to this hotel again. It is very 70s, very tired and in need of a complete refurbishment. Also if you are looking for a quiet holiday this is not the place for you as it has over 1000 bedrooms, therefore at high season there could be 2000+ people staying here and I think this coupled with the airport being so close, would be a complete nightmare! The 3 star rating flatters the place, it is more like a 2 star at the very most. Plenty of people do come back here year after year, so it is to some people's taste, but be warned! Port El Kantoui looks a much better prospect, we visited there and it is so clean and beautiful, you can walk where you like without getting hassled - that's where we'll go next time.

Hi, I have just returned from our holidays (I was with my boyfriend) for a week in Sahara Beach Hotel- if I didn't spend this time with my boyfriend, it would certainly be one of the worst holidays I've ever had. Pools were ok, big, quite nice. But the hotel was so huge!! When we came to eat dinner at 8pm there was hardly any food left. Of course food was the same every day... It was awful! We ate only chips & pizza, drink water & cola. I couldn't stand the drinks! When it comes to tell about the staff, hmm, waiters not smilin', they could only say hello, nice day, that's everythng. Not mentioning dirty towels, not cleaned, even when we gave some dinars to the staff. Old furnished rooms. We felt sick when we ate dessert. What was very nice... the beach was great, big, quite clean, lots of people selling cigarettes & camels... What I should also mention is the security, we felt quite secure, we rent the safe. Unfortunately, you can hear planes takin' off, beause the hotel is 2 minutes from the airport by bus. Hmmm, but the transfer is fine, the faster the better!!! You cannot rest on the beach because of flies sitting on your skin, flying into holes, disaster! I won't come here again. Watch out!!

We stayed here for my 50th birtday in March 2007 and couldn't fault anything. Rooms were spotless, we had clean towels and bedding changed every day. Food was excellent. There was something to suit everyone, hot and well prepared. Staff were kind and helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. We're going back again in a few months. I'd recommend this hotel to anyone who just wants to relax and chill out, it's heaven. There's no shops around but a bus stops near hotel for Sousse, Monastir, its only 24p or a bit more depending where you're going, there's the metro over the road goes to most places. Or taxis wait outside gates but get a price before you get in. Our rep was very good. Enjoy!

We stayed at the hotel Iberostar Sahara Beach. It was called the Tunisian Butlins, but we found this out after we got there. What kind of hotel allows smoking, common people, a market that was well over priced!! Believe me don't go. It's perfect if you hate awful stuff. The beach was ok but cigarettes were everywhere. Mind you the Sahara explorer was amazing. We rode camels across the Sahara. I would go to Tunisia again but certainly NOT to Skanes!!

I stayed at the Sahara Beach hotel and found the experience something that I wouldn't like to try again. In size the hotel and grounds is something that is to be marvelled at and I couldn't complain, but everything else I hated. The entertainment was totally catered for young children with nothing adult based. The nightclub was always empty and provided rubbish music.

The Sahara Beach Hotel was very clean and very welcoming. The staff were very polite and the holiday reps were fantasic. There was so much to do. They organised activities and the trips were great even though we only stayed there for a week and the weather wasn't brilliant. It was a great holiday and we would like to say thanks to our rep for making the holiday so enjoyable and he has made us want to go back there again and again! I cant wait to go back. Tunisia is a lovely country and Sahara Beach Hotel was lovely. It was a pleasure staying there. Thanks so much to everyone who made our holiday so special.

We have stayed at Iberostar Sahara Beach Hotel twice now and have just booked up again for May 2007 to take our parents there. There is so much to do and so much going on at all times, you can enjoy a game of crazy golf and just take a horse ride along the beach during sunset. We wont need to worry about our parents wandering off anywhere, everything is under 'one roof'. The rooms are spacious, very clean and tidy with great views. There is a wide selection of food for everyone, they even have a childrens section of food (for children only!). Entertainment is good, again there is something different on each night with the indoor stage, outdoor theatre, many bars and even having its own night club. I would recommend this hotel, its just over 2 1/2 hours flying with a 10 min transfer time.

Good for families and would suggest that you book all inclusive as "it is a bit out in the sticks" and there is no where to go at lunch times. Similarly, if you want to go out pubbing/clubbing every night then this is not for you. Food was good and plenty of choice. Had a go at bartering in Port el Kantoui but enjoyed shopping in soula centre in Suisse better - a department store where you have room and time to browse and everything is priced! Dont go in the souk area unless you are prepared to be hassled and are good at bartering. Tour Operator: Panorma

For a hotel with three stars expected a tv in room but none available. Can't fault the food which catered for all but advise to go all inclusive. We were half board and a little let down with choice in hotel at lunch time. Reps were helpful and have to thank Alison, Beverley and Tony for all their assistance. Unfortunately weather was rotten so couldn't sample the excellent looking pools or beach. Although near to Monastir,Sousse and Kantauoi this resort not one I would return to but it is great if weather good and you want to laze on beach or by a pool. If using taxis make sure meter is on at all times drivers tend tp mysteriously turn them off during journeys Tour Operator: My Travel

This hotel is very good for famlies, offering children various activites throughout the day and evening. The hotel, pool area and beach are kept to a high standard at all times. Staff members are very helpful and polite. Had no problems with the food: a wide variety given most meal times. I would thoroughly recommend this holiday for famlies of all ages. Please ignore all of the negative comments that people keep leaving on here, these are the people who have paid a reasonable price expecting 5*, tough - go to your snotty places cause this aint for you. I went to Sahara Beach Hotel with my Mum in April 2007, we loved it that much that we have booked up to go again next April. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but it does really get my goat when all the snotty people leave bad comments. Before I went I read all of these bad comments and therefore was dreading leaving the UK. How wrong these people are. So please, please, please don't listen to all these moany people, go and make up your own mind.
