I thought it was our worst holiday ever. It was boring and nothing to do. Nightlife was even worse. The food was awful. Come eleven o clock and that was your night over unless you walked into town which took half hour and then the shop owners dont leave you alone. No nice scenery. Didnt even take any photos. Only thing i can say for the Aral is that it had a nice pool and rooms.

After all of the good reviews, me and my partner decided to go to the Hotel Aral. In many ways it is good, but there are just as many bad points in my opinion. It may be a good hotel by Turkish standards, but there are parts about the experience that I find very dodgy. I'll try to list the good and bad points. Pros - big swimming pool; maid service every day; very clean rooms and swimming pool; every room has a balcony and faces the pool; rooms are a generous size; location is out of the hyped-up part of Side, which is probably a good thing. Cons - horrible night porter and receptionist (see below); food hygiene is terrible (my girlfriend had food poisoning because of the incompetent food hygiene), all food (including dinner time) is left uncovered and has flies all over it, its pretty shocking; there is a huge rubbish dump across the road; swimming pool is unusable unless you like blasting club music, gave us a headache whenever we were down there; the music is very loud even in the rooms; bar is too expensive; all extras (Air Con, Safe & Fridge) are over priced, I think it was 40 Lira for air con and 30 Lira for the safe...we didn't bother with the fridge but I think it was around 30 Lira; the 'water slide' is pretty poor, only open 2 hours a day and is tiny, though there is a separate kids pool, they all go into the main pool; we were there for a week and there was only one entertainment night, which lasted for about an hour or two; takes too long to get to the beach, especially because you get hassled by all of the shop keepers and restaurants on the way, doesn't really have much of interest around so have to travel to do/see anything interesting; we went on an excursion and the tour guide only spoke German, because we were the only English people - that was annoying... Beware of the Night Porter and Receptionist: Not sure what their names are, or if the receptionist was a manager, but these two put a huge damper on our holiday. They work together to try and get you to give them extra money. When we arrived my girlfriend was forced (I mean it) by the horrible night porter and receptionist to have her bag carried to the room, for which the porter demanded a tip. We have very little money so were very upset that he wouldn't leave us alone. The night porter continued to hassle us about money. Every time we walked past him he would ask us if we could change his English tip money to Turkish Lira. We didn't because he's very dishonest and would try to backhand us. Even after saying no he would still hassle us in a complaining way. On checking out of the hotel, around 12am, we carried our own bags to the front of the hotel to wait for our bus. The receptionist then came out and started speaking to us. It soon became apparent that he was trying to make us pity him so that we would give him money. He kept eyeing us and telling us he was 'so tired' and pretended to keep nodding off while sitting beside us. That was uncomfortable enough, but then the porter came. He turned his back to us and started muttering in Turkish to the receptionist. He then stood for a long time eyeing us and looking arrogant. The two then wandered off for about 2mins. The night porter then returned and started playing sound clips of what I assume were his children, again to try and gain our pity (or make us feel guilty). When our bus arrived, my girlfriend protested that she wanted to take her own bag onto the bus but he snatched it off her. We just got on the bus because he was clearly playing up at this point. It may be some people's idea of ok, but it certainly wasn't to my liking.

It was a great choice
It was our first trip to Turkey and we are satisfied with the location and hotel choice. First of all the Aral Hotel staff are very friendly and always happy to assist you. Especially Mehmed, the Manager, who is the only one who really speaks English, and who quickly became a friend of ours. All other staff although don’t speak to much English, try their best to help you. We liked the food a lot, they serve different meat foods, a lot of salads, fruits, and tea and coffee all day long. We had the all inclusive(AI) option, so we got Breakfast at 8.00-10.00, Lunch at 12.30-14.00, cake and sweets 16.00-17.00, Dinner at 20.00-22.00. The Bar was open from 10.00 till 23.00 where they served free local drinks, “Efes” beer, wine, gin, vodka, and of course Turkish national drink-“raki”, bottle water, Cola, Sprite, Fanta. There are two ways to get to the beach, the closest way you have pass near a dump, but the other one though is longer, you get to see some hotels, markets and restaurants on the road. None of them takes you more than 15 min. Also the hotel provides you with a shuttle bus for free, at 10.15 to get you to the beach and back at 16.00 (so you miss the lunch). We enjoyed the waterslide a lot! It is open from 11.00-12.00 and from 16.00-17.00, but it is enough to fully enjoy it. Also they have one of the biggest pools in the area. The rooms are being cleaned every day, and towels and sheets changed about 2,3 times a week. I think Side Aral Hotel gives you more than 3 stars, and it is a great choice for young couples, families, or even sole traveler. Most of the guests are from Europe, and a few from Russia. This vacation gave us memories for a lifetime.

The Aral Hotel is a fairly new establishment. Clean & spotless. Pool is clean so are waterslides. Staff speaks little or no English. Memat (Syrian) is ok & so is other manager, you can communicate in English. One piece of advice: do not go any more than self-catering in this place. Food near by is 10 - 20% cheaper & quality same or better within 3 - 7 mins walk. Breakfast is not brilliant eggs some days & none other days. Looking at breakfast one could imagine how dinner will be. I will go back to this place once again & will be on self-catering. Couple of other suggestion, room check out is 12 noon, if your Thomas cook departure flight is 12 midnight then you have to pay £30 for shower in any room (hotel was 60% our time). TC rep is not bothered to help. Owner Russian guy is polite & firm on extra charges even for a shower & change. Discuss with your TC rep on day one about departures as you will rarely see her again. Lastly Side town is 10 - 15 mins walk depending your walking speed. You will have to walk past garbage dump, area is peaceful & quiet. Ideal if you like such holiday break.

Just got back from a two week stay at the Aral Hotel in Side. The hotel was lovely and clean and the staff were really nice nothing was too much trouble to any of them although their English was very limited! I think the hotel should have a better rating than a two star. We stayed half board and the food was excellent. I do think that the hotel could have had some more entertainment going on for people with families who might not have found it easy to get out and about although it didn't bother us! Bit of a trek to Side Centre so women beware do not take high heel shoes you definitely need flats to walk in or you'll not only struggle over the ruins beach etc but your shoes will also be wrecked! We loved Side and the Aral and would definitely go back!

I loved the Aral hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms and the pool area/restaurant were spotless and the rooms were large and airy. Great pool area with plenty of free loungers and lovely food. Good location in a fairly quiet area, but only a 15 minute walk to the centre of Side and the ruins and two minutes from minibus/taxi rank. A few lovely restaurants within 5 minutes of the hotel. The Hawaiian in particular served fantastic food and was friendly (with a karaoke later at night), as was the Amelda restaurant. About a ten minute walk to the nearest beach, but the pool is really big with slides etc, so it's tempting just to stay there. If you're planning on visiting Side, then I would recommend this hotel.

The Aral Hotel is ok, the hydroslide is quite cool. It's far to walk to side, and you have to walk through a dump to get there.

My second stay at the Aral Hotel in April 2007 this year was fantastic. The food is excellent and facilities are great. The pool now has a welcome addition of a waterslide which I will try on my next visit. The staff are very friendly. The rooms are immaculate and a traditional weekly Turkish night is now available. A relaxing environment with amazing beach, ancient ruins, shopping and nightlife within 15 minutes walk or a speeedy dolmush away.
