Cephalonia
A short flight (or ferry ride) from the Greek capital of Athens, in the Ionian Sea, lies one of the country’s most charming islands, Cephalonia. Little wonder a holiday in Cephalonia is a top of the list when anyone considers travelling to Greece: the island is well-developed touristically, but retains the traditional laid-back ambience ofmore
Cephalonia is absolutely beautiful - Jacki. Date of travel: Sep 2007
We were enhanced by this beautiful Island, many parts are unspoilt, we stayed two weeks and had a car for five days, in that time we were able to see lots of sights on the island including goats up trees. They actually roam everywhere so when driving on remote roads be wary. The locals are very friendly and go out of their way to help you. Some of the roads are very dangerous as there can be sheer drops and often there are rock slides but dont let this put you off. I have been to several Greek islands and this one beats the lot.
Wonderful country Skala lovely resort - Karen. Date of travel: Aug 2007
Airport very small, only 3 check in desks so when it's time to leave you have to queue outside for a while. The roads are scary, very winding and with steep drops as mountainous. Skala is a lovely resort with loads of nice restaurants and a few bars, only 1 club that I noticed called Zebra and that had a children's playground and crazy golf outside! Not the place for clubbers or lager louts just a very nice family/couples place. Skala beach although nice was shingley and the sea got very deep very quickly so not too good for younger children or those that cannot swim, try Kaminia beach, it's beautiful, a lovely breeze, soft sand and the sea is very shallow for a very long time, only down side to that is the taxi costs approx. €13 - €15 one way and it takes less than 10 minutes to get there but it is worth it.
Cephalonia - Julie Bryant. Date of travel: May 2007
Cephalonia entices a sense of enchantment from the movie "Captain Corellis Mandolin". Being very close to Corfu and Paxos islands it seems to be a logical incusion. However, island hopping by ferry is impossible which makes it extremely difficult to reach so we flew in from Corfu town. The island is very much geared to package holidays usually for British travellers so the independent traveller needs to be aware of the need for a hire car which can be expensive with limited kilometres and prices which are not negotiable. Transport and tours often close down at weekends and off season. The independent traveller can be left with little to do without planning and research. We spent 3 nights in Argostoli and just took many walks. Consider carefully.
