Miami
When it comes to imagining a seaside vacation in the States, a holiday in Miami is what springs to mind. The famed Art Deco seafront of this sunny Florida city is constantly awash with jolly holiday-makers of all ages. The city is also the hub of the Caribbean cruise ship industry, a nightlife mecca, andmore
Welcome to Miami - Silvia. Date of travel: Jan 2008
Homeland of sun, exaggeration and parties, Miami is a summer all year round place. It is easier to enjoy it with a couple of tips. You will find perfectly sun tanned bodies and powerful beach volleyball players, as well as big men, with big golden chains around their necks and wearing black sunglasses, driving big cars on ocean drive with rap music at the top possible volume. Miami is also a very 80s, happy and gay city. The cafeteria, in 546 Lincoln Road, is the nicest spot to start your day. Under the palm of the main road of South Beach, sip your coffee accompanied by heavenly blueberry muffins, fresh tropical fruit and much more. The place is clean and the staff is helpful. Ask them about the parties that are on in town. I've also seen a Cafeteria in New York, equally agreeable. Not sure if there are more in other US cities. News cafe on ocean drive is also lovely and affordable. It seems like is the place where Giorgio Armani used to go every day for breakfast. Mangos by ocean drive is a place full of hispanic dancers and excellent cocktails. Go there at night if you feel in a Latino mood!

Pleasantly surprised
On arrival at Miami we were pleasantly surprised by the efficiency of passport control and baggage handling. Travelled north to beach area of Boca Grande and Englewood spent a fabulous month visiting different areas by boat and car. Many unspoilt beaches and unique restaurants which to us are Florida without the tourist element but will all the beauty. The pace of life is slower, the weather was absolutely beautiful and there were lots for the children to do including watching dolphins (50 or 60 at a time), collecting large shells, go karting, 10 pin bowling and swimming in the sea.
