Almaty Climate and Weather
Almaty has a humid continental climate with hot summers and cold winters. Average low temperatures during the coldest months (December to February) typically range from 17 to 19°F (−8 to −6°C), although record lows can fall below −22°F (−30°C). Summer highs from June through August usually reach around 84 to 86°F (29 to 30°C), and can occasionally exceed 95°F (35°C), with record highs near 110°F (43°C).
Summer months are also among the driest. The wettest period is in the spring, especially in April and May, when the city sees about 9 to 10 days of rain per month. Winter, from November through March, is cold and often brings snow or winter rain, though the number of precipitation days remains moderate.
Almaty's location near mountain resorts such as Shymbulak makes it a year-round destination. Winter offers skiing and snowboarding, while spring and summer provide opportunities for hiking, sightseeing, and other outdoor activities in the mountains.
