Melbourne Climate and Weather

Melbourne has a moderate oceanic climate, and the city's weather is famously changeable. In the hottest months of summer (December to February), temperatures typically average between about 57 °F (14 °C) and 77 °F (25 °C), though heat-waves can take it much higher. In spring and summer cold fronts can bring thunderstorms, hail, heavy rain and squalls. In the winter months (June to August), typical averages are around 43 °F (6 °C) at the low end to about 57 °F (14 °C) at the high end. Melbourne sometimes sees frost and fog in winter, but snow in the city is extremely rare. While any time of year can be enjoyable, many visitors choose the November to March window for its warmer, more settled weather, though rain remains possible throughout the year.
