Vienna Ball Season
November — February annually
Various
Vienna is the only city in the world where balls still dominate the social calendar during the winter months. A Viennese ball is a unique opportunity to experience the city's sophisticated charm and its famous eponymous waltz. The official ball season features around 300 public balls catering to a wide range of tastes and budgets. Among the most prestigious are the Vienna Opera Ball, the social highlight of the European ball season, the elegant Philharmoniker Ball, and the glamorous Kaiserball at the imperial Hofburg Palace. The Kaiserball, a glittering New Year's Eve celebration, traditionally opens the season and draws both locals and international visitors.
While the season typically begins in mid-November and concludes on Ash Wednesday, the peak months are January and February. A few balls may take place outside this period, occasionally extending into spring. For those attending, Vienna offers numerous rental services specialising in formal wear and ball gowns, making it easy to dress the part.
