Climate in South Australia

South Australia covers several different climate zones, ranging from the hot, dry deserts of the north to the more Mediterranean-style weather along the southern coast. Adelaide, the state's coastal capital, can get very hot in summer, especially between December and February, with daytime temperatures often sitting between 79 and 86°F (26 and 30°C). Spring and autumn are usually warm, mild and very pleasant. Winter, from June to August, is the coolest and wettest time of year, and in Adelaide temperatures typically range from around 45°F (7°C) at night to between 59 and 63°F (15 and 17°C) during the day.

Inland areas experience far more extreme conditions. Summer temperatures can soar above 104°F (40°C), rainfall is scarce and the landscape is hot and dry for much of the year. These contrasts make South Australia a state of varied seasons and strikingly different environments, from coastal vineyards to vast desert plains.
