Bahrain Travel Guide
Sophisticated, modern and cosmopolitan, Bahrain is a kingdom of 33 natural islands and many reclaimed ones, set in the Arabian Gulf. It attracts a growing number of international visitors who come to experience the country's unique blend of Eastern tradition and Western modernity.
On the main island, the capital Manama offers excellent hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, and a lively traditional bazaar, and visitors will find all the amenities needed for a comfortable and enjoyable stay. The island also boasts warm, sunny weather for most of the year, a range of public and private beaches, as well as a population where English is widely spoken and understood.
Bahrain is connected to the Arabian Peninsula by the 16-mile (25km) King Fahd Causeway. The kingdom has a rich cultural heritage dating back over 4,000 years to the ancient Dilmun civilisation, whose thousands of burial mounds are scattered across the landscape, some now near the modern skyline of Manama.
Historically, Bahrain's prosperity stemmed from its strategic position for trade and fishing, along with its once-flourishing pearl industry. In the 20th century, the discovery of oil further boosted economic development. Today, the kingdom is increasingly focused on diversification, with tourism playing a growing role.
While Bahrain has faced political challenges in recent years, it continues to develop as a tourist destination. Whether visiting for business or leisure, travellers will find Bahrain to be an interesting, relaxing and rewarding place to explore.
