Climate in Madagascar

Madagascar's climate is generally subtropical, with a hot and rainy season from November to April, and a cooler, dry season from May to October. Climatic conditions vary significantly by region and elevation. The east coast is hot, humid, and wet, and most prone to cyclones (especially between January and March). The west coast is notably drier, while the far south and southwest are semi-desert and receive very little rainfall (under 800 mm annually). The central highlands, including Antananarivo, enjoy a cooler, drier, and more temperate climate. Coastal areas typically range from about 27 to 32 °C (81 to 90 °F) in the wet season to 18 to 22 °C (64 to 72 °F) in the dry season. Travellers should check the specific climate of their destination. The dry season (May to October) is generally the most pleasant time to visit.
